Muhammad Taqi Usmani is son of renowned Mufti Muhammed Shafi Saheb, Mufti-e-Azam Pakistan and founder of Darul Uloom, Karachi. He obtained his "Alimiyyah and Tahkassus" degrees from Darul Uloom Karachi. He obtained his Master's degree from Punjab University and LL.B degree from Karachi University.

He has been teaching Fiqh, Hadith and other branches of Islamic Studies for at least four decades. He was appointed Judge of Shariat Appelate Bench of Supreme Court of Pakistan in 1982. His other noted appointments include:

1. Deputy Chairman / Permanent Member of International Islamic Fiqh Academy, Jeddah, sponsored by IOC
2. Vice President, Darul Uloom, Karachi, Pakistan
3. Member of Commission for Islamization of Economy, Govt. of Pakistan

5. Member of Shariah Supervisory Board, Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions
